I've been happily open air deep frying our chicken in an old 1990's era Dazey Model #2250 since about the mid 90's when my wife bought it. 13-1/2 minutes in (mainly) Peanut Oil at the 325 degrees F. setting. No idea what the real temperature is at that setting, but at 13 minutes there is occasional redness remaining on the bones of the thigh pieces, and at 14 minutes the chicken is already darkening too much and just beginning to taste a bit dried out, whereas at 13-1/2 minutes everything seems nominally perfect.
