Just to add a section on the flavoring from beef.

We know tallow was a traditional frying oil, and it has been suggested that various substitutes were tried when it was changed.

Here is an article on beef use (beef powder and rendered beef fat) on  another KFC product (grilled chicken) indicating small amounts of beef products are “commonly used” in seasonings.

MarkWinston had a good experience frying in beef tallow.

I have brined a lot of chicken using some beef stock in the liquid and it does add an umami to the chicken. I've moved away from that for the time being but may come back to it.
