I was mixing together KFC/G11 today and I needed garlic salt. Having just powder, I wondered what would be the equivalent amount of salt to add, as well as the amount of powder to reduce, to have a correct ratio. Maybe there already is, or there could be a table such as: 1 tsp garlic salt= __tsp garlic powder + ___tsp salt 1 tsp onion salt= __tsp onion powder + ___tsp salt 1 tsp tarragon= __ tsp caraway or ___tsp fennel or ___tsp anise
You see where I'm going with this...maybe Ken if, in his infinite wisdom, thinks this is a good idea can pretty it up in a table like he has in other threads.

Thanks TPM, in the case of Garlic salt ....In its most basic form it is made by combining 3 parts salt and 1 part garlic powder by volume, or 6 parts salt and 1 part garlic powder by weight... So, buying the powdered form is the way to go. Salt is cheap as dirt.

A typical substitution for 1 tsp of Garlic Salt, is as follows:
3/4tsp Salt (4.5g) and 1/4tsp Garlic Powder (0.7g)... it is best to weigh-out the two ingredients if you have scales that can do that. Obviously you can multiply each of the weights etc. to make a much larger batch, but remember a large batch will eventually take on moisture and will 'cake' and go hard.
I recommend you use Fine Flake Salt and Garlic Powder (not Garlic Granules) for your KFC recipes... if you use normal table salt and garlic granules, I would grind the mix to a fine powder.
Once you have mixed the two ingredients together, the resulting Garlic Salt will weigh 1.3g per quarter teaspoonful.
