back on july 10, 2009, i tossed out a challenge regarding 99x. as you can see, it generated no apparent interest. so, one year later, ive decided to accept my own challenge. last night i mixed up a blend, using, for the most part, virtually all of the ingredients that have been identified using dustys hubble. these are the same ingredients others are using to replicate the o.r. i decided to set aside ratios for the time being, and focus solely on mimmicking 99x. please see my first attempt below, with comments to follow.
99X TAKE 1
2 tsp msg
2 tsp white pepper
2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tspn fine flake salt
1/2 tsp sage
1/2 tsp coriander
1/4 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp bay leaves
1/8 tsp cardamom
1/8 tsp savory
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cloves
1/8 tsp red pepper
raw smell/taste results
as many of you know, some of my fellow replicators insist 99x is simply lots of msg, lots of pepper, salt, and "specs of spices". as you can see, my first attempt consists of lots of msg, lots of pepper, salt, and specs of spices. so how does it taste/ smell? nothing like 99x. i used all marionkay products,so that wouldnt explain it. to me, 99x has a very sharp note which is missing from this recipe. i can only conclude 99x has a ingredient, which my mix simply does not. oh well, its on to Take 2. last night, i also mixed up another recipe. this time i decided to venture "outside of the box" a wee bit. dont you just hate that expression..."outside of the box"? i do. however, i digress. in fact, the "new ingredient" has been tried before, with varying results. without further ado, heres 99X Take Two, with comments to follow.
99X Take Two
1 tsp msg
1 tsp white pepper
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp fine flake salt
1 tsp sage
1/4 tsp coriander
1/4 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp cardamom
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cloves
1/8 tsp red pepper
1/8 tsp bay leaves
1/8 tsp celery Shocked
as you can see, this mix is less peppery, as far as the celery, even at 1/8 tsp, it is too strong, even after melding over night. again, taste/smell compared to x= no comparison at all.

in my best robert de niro voice..."you wan mo spice?..you wan mo spice?...you talkin ta me?...you talkin ta me?....ill give ya mo spice....heres ya spice! i dont know how this fits as far as ratio extrapolations, but it taste bloody AWESOME!
99X Take 3
1 tsp msg
1 tsp white pepper
2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sage
1/2 tsp coriander
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp bayleaves
1/4 tsp cardamom
1/4 tsp savory
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tspn cloves
1/8 tsp redpepper
well, i figured if the theory is that mk reduced the amount of spices and herbs, then all i have to do is increase the spices and herbs. and i did. the results? bloody awesome! nice slow heat, but everything blends, just like 99x. im not saying its 100% identical. but i swear its close. even the color is dead on. i hope youll try it, in theses ratios, and give me some feedback. Wink
