A couple days ago I had some KFC, it was a mix of OR and Crispy. Leftovers were in the fridge. The next day I ate cold leftovers. Comparing crispy which after being in the fridge was no long crispy, it tasted like plain fried chicken, it did not have the flavor of the OR. After eating a piece of the crispy then I ate a thigh of OR and could swear I tasted clove. No doubt about it there was a note of clove in it.

In the current raw blend mix, I don't detect the smell or taste of cloves. In the past, I used to believe that there was a clove-like flavor in the 99X mix, but I now realize that I was confusing it with the scent and taste of marjoram or oregano. Dustin

I've used clove in quite a few cooks along with allspice. Since I still think Sexton's Poultry seasoning may have been an early basis of the OR (allspice).
However, In the recreation of the OR by Marion Kay and by extension Grace's. Allspice seems to get billed by them higher than it would in Sexton's poultry seasoning. Plus if you believe in the vials at all. Both Allspice and Cloves could be represented in them. I surmised that perhaps in the real OR. CHS added a pinch of cloves to the Sexton's poultry seasoning (real early on) subsequently the ingredients that made it. Whereas Bill Summers just upped Allspice and saved a slot so to speak. And yes it would taste different which is true.

Seems logical. Maybe clove and rosemary were early pairs and clove was dropped so allspice and rosemary could pair. Then rosemary gets dropped for something else, and the snowball gradually rolls down the hill. Wouldn't it be ironic if originally each spice and herb were paired with an opposite? This could have been the "multiples". It is similar to what I do for my chili seasoning.

Just to give my two cents worth, I believe Clove is in the O.R (Or likely anyway). I do think that it's only a small amount though, probably added to make the flavour profile a bit more dynamic. I've never 'particularly' tasted Clove in the O.R but then I've never particularly tasted Garlic either, and we know that this must be in there....I know there's a line of thought that this may have been added later, but unless good evidence comes out to the contrary, my bet is that it's always been there. Also when used in small amounts I don't really taste Clove or Garlic in my own recipes either.
